3 Point Lighting
For this week, we made a three-point lighting system to light a toy and then painted it digitally in Photoshop. I took a picture using a light table to create a strong rim light beneath the plush. Then I shined a phone light on the upper right for a key light. Fill light was provided by the ambient room lighting. I used a plushy based off Kogepan.
Then I made a mid grey background and created the entire silhouette from a medium Gray. Using multiply I shaded the rest of the toy using Gray to create the grayscale value.
Then I added highlights in overlay layers. and additional refining details like line work and thread texture.
Using a charcoal brush to imitate plushie texture, I went into tool settings to increase the noise and spread. I made this brush large and light gray. I created the texture from dappling the brush on a layer and making blend mode multiply. I also did this for white but using overlay to create more of a sense of depth.
Then I placed color blocking below the shaded value.
Finally I made color adjustment layers to correct the color.
